Life is Round

In a village called Saint Maurice sous les Côtes, there is a house that seeks to find a way of coexistence—an environment centered around trees and the land, traversed by networks of force. Among shared connections, the search for a sustainable economy and the freedom to be, the pursuit of a good life takes shape. All of this is supported by a vast mycelium network that inhabits the forests of the Moselle region. How can we make the invisible visible? How can we use art to reveal the lines of interaction between fungi, trees, animals, people, and objects that surround this place?

This proposal is a testimony of an experience, presented through an installation composed of various objects, drawings, paintings, and photographs.

This project was specifically conceived for the exhibition "Un essaim dans l’orage", which took place at the Kunsthalle de Mulhouse. It is an experimental project by students of the Art program at HEAR Art and Design in Mulhouse. This project brought together students from the third to fifth year, as well as two recent graduates: Uriel Ladino Rojas and Justine Siret. Together, we explored forms of territorial and proximity networks, merging our individual and collective research to shape the exhibition. What is a network? How do we weave connections between one another? How can we approach the crisis of consciousness we are facing from a peaceful perspective?

Additionally, as part of the exhibition, I proposed a series of conversations exploring three ways of understanding the world: the search for utopias and sustainability as a new way of existing, reconnection with the land and our indigenous roots through an ancient technology found in the caves of northern Colombia, and the garden as a device for thought—allowing us to reconnect with the land and nature, which, as a living entity, creates an infinite network of force that binds us together. Finally, the search for utopias and sustainability as a new way of existing in the world:

  1. The cave as a territory for reconnection with the true condition – Jhate Zezinguma (Colombia)

  2. The garden, the green revolution, and peaceful resistance – Elenita Villamil (Colombia)

  3. Contemporary economic utopias and anarchism – Martin Jochum (France)
